Yesterday while I was walking along a fairly deserted road in the foothills below Sequoia National Park I was overcome by an acute sense of panic. It was hard to comprehend, at the time, because I was surrounded by some of the most majestic scenery on the planet. My stroll took me through Oak trees of all species, bumble bee quality flowering foliage, lush green mountains, romantic rocks, and the view of Alta Peak towering at 11,000 feet. I compare the view of Sequoia National Park to the Swiss Alps which I visited many years ago.

During the walk I was making a conscious effort to keep my feet on the ground and to ‘slow down’. My mind runs amok on an ‘occasional’ basis. The more I attempted to s l o w d o w n the more I was consumed with a greater sense of urgency to keep moving. I actually sensed a level of guilt for not doing more. Attempting to silence my mind put me in direct contact with its opposite: sheer panic. Why was this happening?

I have been rewarded quite nicely by society for accomplishing results and being in constant deed. If I slow down, “What will I do?” “Who will I be if I’m not doing something?” “OMG, I might die if I’m not producing something!”

These are real thoughts I experienced yesterday on what I had hoped would be a peaceful outing. It’s ironic that one of my highest priorities, right now, is to experience Stillness. Often is the case that our truest desire puts us in direct conflict with ‘its’ opposite. In this case: Silence vs pandemonium.

How does this happen? Conditioning, patterns and addictions have formulated the path of our existence. I’m addicted to working, producing, responsibilities, tasks, schedules and the call to perfection. I have to classify this as an addiction because of the reaction I have when I even think about not having these scenarios in my world. This doesn’t mean those ‘things’ are bad. I’m simply seeking an adjustment to my internal volume control. Might you relate?

There are specific configurations in the hands that can point to this type of internal feeding frenzy. See if you have any of these six designs in your hands or fingerprints. They involve either the Life Line or the Arch fingerprint.

Palmistry Basics by Kay Packard

Within the beautiful and magnificent hands are numerous aspects and characteristics to ponder. All of these various aspects are contained within each of us. The hand map is a simple diagram showing the descriptions for some of these facets. A line or marking in the hand can specify a particular element that distinguishes you from everyone else. I’d like to introduce you to some fundamentals of palmistry because I’ve found this art and science to be incredible for deep self awareness and enriched personal empowerment. I’ve seen people from age eight to eighty benefit.

Areas of the hand, such as the fingers, mounts, and specific markings, can mold themselves in accordance to how we engage particular traits in our own lives. We are whole beings with a whole hand – times two! As the hand can be compartmentalized, we too can be recognized with various partitions of attributes in our interior make-up. For example, you may be motivated to lead while also being gifted at writing. Or you may have a knack for spiritual counsel as well as achieving endless tasks. The shape and quality of your index finger tells me about your preferences and talents as a leader. The fleshy mount of the Moon, at the bottom of the palm, near the wrist on the outer edge of the palm gives me a clue as to your interest in spirituality.

As we give attention to certain things in our lives we consciously and often times unconsciously, compose our life-movie-scenes. My life movie involves innovative teaching with great passion, amongst other things. You too follow a theme as part of your life movie.

The hands can be read to clearly show how a person is using or living with these various aspects in their life movie. You have a concrete blue print, in essence a life map, at the end of your own arms. Take a look. What do you see?

For example, the Thumb represents results, accomplishment and will for success. Every single person will approach this aspect of life in a completely different way. Let’s consider a simple example. If someone has a large Thumb, relative to the rest of the hand, and its set away from the hand, the owner will generally prefer to grasp and handle on a large scale. Conversely, a person with a smaller thumb, relative to the rest of the hand, and is held more tightly to the palm, will be more inclined to keep to themselves with less will to do.

It is important not to make judgment or assessment of anyone based on only one characteristic. It’s important to look at a variety of points to determine a more accurate picture. Think of an ant as a presence and contribution of individuality to the whole of the living ant colony. We won’t get a whole picture of the ant colony by looking at only one of the workers. To appreciate the reason for the ant colony, with its beauty and significant contribution to the nature of things, it would be better to study a variety of the moving insects, to analyze their operations and to understand their purpose. I remember when I was first introduced to the idea (and fact) that some ants can carry 100 times their own weight. After being told, I had to go watch the ants in the dirt in my back yard. While I didn’t have equipment to measure the miniature weeds and ant-food being swiftly hauled on their backs, I could see what they carried weighed more than the micro creature itself.

Back to hands.

The way I look at this, fingers are like antennas receiving and transmitting energy. Mountains on the palms allow space for the energy to be used. And lines etched in the hands illustrate the flow of energy along our neurological ‘bi-ways and hi- ways’. I also consider us as vibrational beings. The imprints on our naked bodies, in the form of lines on and shapes of the hands and fingers reveal a vibrational code, if you will. The skin carvings (a.k.a dermatoglypics) of the fingerprints also reflect an energy imprint. These patterns, or codes, can be analyzed, deciphered and translated from palmese to words that can be understood. These words, describing the meaning in the hand- print is considered a ‘reading’.

Just about anyone over the age of four can learn how to read hands. Depending on the desire and motivation advanced levels can also be achieved. Today, let’s keep it very simple.

Below is a simple diagram of the hand with preliminary descriptions for the fingers and mounts. The descriptions come from the ancient art and science of hand reading.

A few charlitains and mis guided palmists have given the language of the palm a bad taste. But that is actually the case with many trades. For example, there are a small handfull (no pun intended) of doctors, lawyers, photographers and guru’s who may have demonstrated the negative side of their work. To encounter the best outcomes in your life-movie, it’s important to be curious, ask questions, follow your intuition, take personal responsibility for your investigations and perform according to a well writen script. To have a more informed opinion of palmistry and hand analysis you are wise to visit with and read about hand analysis from highly qualified and professional hand analysts.

In this basic context of palmistry, we focus on a non-predictive approach where there is an upside and a downside to each identifiable attribute in the hands. As with your hair, there are good hair days and bad hair days! Each characteristic identifiable in the hand, be it a heart line interpretation, a strong finger definition, a star, a grill or a hand shape, all have “plus” and “minus” sides. Assimilating both sides is crucial for personal understanding and development.

You may want to learn to read hands for fun out of curiosity or you may be in the process of learning how to read hands professionally. No matter where you are in the spectrum of reading palms there are many positive outcomes. Clients have reported the following benefits:

- Self knowledge and awareness

- Validation of deep knowings ‘within’

- Information to make better life-choices

- Self acceptance

- Clear articulation of strengths and weaknesses and what to do with both

- Ability to see opposing characteristics within the personality and declare steps for personal wholeness

- Understanding that every person is living their own life, in their own way

- Freedom to be me

- Clarity in why one is here

- Instead of wondering around with an invisible blindfold, one can use the life map etched in their very palms for life guidance.

Keep your eye out for my next article illustrating the major and vertical lines in the hands. The major lines are the heart, head and life lines. The vertical lines reach up the hands toward each of the fingers.

There is a particular etching in the palm of the hand that illustrates immense sensitivity to the energy patterns of the Universe. The print below shows two arrows pointing to a line arcing below the two middle fingers on the upper area of the palm.

The term “Girdle of Venus” is used in older Palmistry although it is nowhere near the Mount of Venus. Vernon Mahabal calls this marking “The Line of Neptune” because of the area of the Palm he associates the marking to. Regardless of the name the explanations are similar.

Line of Sensitivity and Compassion

Imagine yourself at a puppy farm where the puppies are confined in the worst conditions. It’s hard to even write about the atmosphere of the puppy farms. Those cute, furry creatures eat and sleep in their own urine and feces. Or imagine, for a moment the living, if you can call it that, arrangements in the war-time concentration camps in Germany. See in your mind’s eye the sleeping quarters, lack of food, water and shelter. Envision the smell of the burning bodies in those horrid camps.

If I’ve lost you and you quit reading the above depiction of humanistic night mares, you most likely carry the great sensitivity associated with of the Line of Neptune (AKA Girdles of Venus). The owners of a Line of Neptune are highly tuned in to the energies of wide-reaching suffering because of a highly evolved Universal Love they carry. It is extremely difficult for the owner to see, hear about or even consider the massive pains and experiences of masses of peoples or animals. It hurts the heart too deeply to engage in the ache in the world. They have a tenderness of heart.

If you have this marking, you may have learned to manage your profound sensitivity to the force of suffering and sadness with invisible or visible ear muffs. Ear protection is symbolic for much needed protection from wide scale energies that can be exceedingly overwhelming. The sensation of misery, agony and torment can feel unbearable. In reaction to this subtle and usually indescribably agitation, you may have chosen to live in the country or along the open coast line, away from the pin ball energy bounce of the city.

It’s very important to care for yourself and the effects of the invisible antennas permanently mounted to the top of your head. You are in constant contact, tuned in, tapped in and turned on to subtle energies at a universal level.

On a bad day, at your worst, if the sensitivities are not treated with great care and attention, you could develop addictions to escape the all consuming energetic world. Addictions to drugs or alcohol appear to numb the affects of the hidden forces of energy. If you increase your attention on the worldly suffering, unhealthy fantasy, delusion and false ideals may consume and replace your capacity of vast and insightful vision.

At your very best you will harness the elevated vision you carry with your faith in the Divine and fully utilize your experience and skill working for Universal Welfare. Perhaps you choose to perform as a deeply caring Doctor, Nurse, Social Worker, Hospice Worker, Green Peace worker a Nun or some Spiritual function helping at a worldly level. Hand Analysis, Quantum Healing, World Wide Meditation Circles, Habitat for Humanity, Emotional Freedom Techniques and other Metaphysical fields bring out the psychology of the heart. On the Master Path, the owner knows how to use the appropriate dosage of suffering – just enough to cultivate their understanding and love. There is a capability to cultivate compassion for all living beings.

If you hold this marking in your hand, consider how life would look for you if you were to fully utilize your gift of universal compassion, caring and love out in the world.

Only when there is understanding of suffering can there be acceptance and love. “If there were no suffering how could we understand our own suffering and the suffering of others in order to accept and truly love them?” Sister Dang Nghiem – Disciple of Thich Nhat Hanh

The owner of this Line of love on a grand scale learns from the pain and transforms that pain into understanding and awareness. Then the suffering no longer paralyzes, overwhelms or drives one into fanaticism and escape. As this happens you realize you carry the energy of the buddhas and bodhisattvas.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards mesmerized me from my big American screen TV last night. Riveted to every word spoken and adoring each voluptuous glamour shot I drooled. I LOVE to match movie star actor characteristics to markings in the hands, especially the heart lines and hand shapes. Perhaps a strong finger description reveals itself for an added bonus.

One piece of advice I heard is something that we all can benefit from in our entrepreneurial businesses. Angela Jolie answered a Twitter question from a young, new, enthusiastic, actor to the industry. The question asked for her counsel how to break into the film industry. To my surprise she responded with “go out into the world and gain experience; travel.” “Get a wide variety of experience and find out who you are.” She added, “Then bring that back to your acting”. Wow, I would have thought of 20 other answers she could have given. However, I loved her answer because any new, enthusiastic entrepreneur can embrace and shine with that same advice.

What I heard Angela say is “Find out who you are and develop your style. I love comedy. Tina Fey, Lucille Ball, Jack Black, Jim Carry, Mary Tyler Moore, and Alec Baldwin are some of my favorite comedians. Consider each of them individually. They’re each in the over-arching category of comedian but each has his and her own style.

Hand Analysts for example, can use the breadth of experience outside of reading hands to tightly weave into their practice. In fact, life experience is imperative for the success of the Hand Analyst. Life Purpose Fulfillment of the Practitioner is crucial when coaching, mentoring, guiding and advising their clients.

If you’re a Hand Analyst, consider these steps:

1) Go out and LIVE – fully

2) Be present in all of your experience

3) Observe your life lesson at play

4) Notice your life lesson catalyzing your life purpose

5) Witness, embrace and SHOW YOUR style

Bring YOU into to your practice. Tina Fey doesn’t act like Jim Carry or Lucille Ball, although they may have influences on Tina. There is only one Tina Fey. There is only one Lucille Ball. And there is only ONE YOU and your clients want ‘that’. The energy field you exude is like no other.

To pinpoint Your style listen to what your clients tell you they like and market that! When you are the real you, you’ll attract the perfect client(s) for You.

Let me know how this works for you. I’d love to hear about it!

I’d like this 8-Year Old to be on my radar for years to come because of a few significant markings on her left hand (below). One particular line called the Line of Apollo is stretching from the bottom of her palm up toward her ring finger (in pink). While it is running a jagged course it still very much indicates the design of a professional artist. Think of someone in the spotlight, maybe on the silver screen, who is a writer, performer with voice and instrument and possibly even a director, all wrapped in one.

She also has a Simian Line running horizontal along her hand from one side to the other (dark teal). The key word for this line is intensity. The emotional and mental systems are merged together. They form a union and lend to the owner doing what they do with all of their being.

Because of the inside organization of emotions with thoughts there can be a sense of misunderstandings with others. With extra care in the communications department – which means purposeful practice in clarifying messages – she can develop into a master of communications. Combine the preceding with the last minute veering of the Apollo Line toward the pinkie finger – the finger of communications – and we may see a theme of interpreting and translating in original and innovative form.

As a reminder, I am not making predictions about her future. The lines can change and are most likely to change with her personal development. The markings in the hand tend to indicate the preferences and inclinations of the owner.

One other line to note is the orange vertical line reaching up toward the index finger. This is the line of inspiration and ambition. This tells me she has an urge to surge with vision. Her high ideals stimulate her vision and thus lead to her inspiring nature.

When combining just these three lines she has the talent of an inspiring and intense artist on her way to mastery. Skills are required to develop mastery and in her case the following will help: practice and persistence in communicating her creative wants, visions, ideas and innovations; then doing them!

On a side note, her life purpose is the Successful Pioneer. As she handles the arrows, stands true to her values and trusts her inner voice, I’d imagine we’ll see big things from this little one. Stay tuned!

Below are two markings in the palm of the hand to give me a clue that this 15-year-old is on a passionate exploration at Life U.

What I explained to her:

The purple line running across your palm at the top of the hand is your heart line. This type of line is called the Passionate heart line. This tells me that you like excitement and despise boredom. You can express your emotions with a fire-like nature – quick and blunt. This line also indicates that you are charismatic and people like to be around you, like they would a campfire. People become mesmerized by the ‘colors’ you exude – blue, red, purple, orange… all those fire-like colors. The passionate type usually does a good job at expressing her “I wants”. While you may not always get them, expressing what you want is healthy because you express the energy that wants to be expressed like a river unblocked by a damn. The upside of your heart line is that you are fun, outgoing, excitable, enthusiastic and passionate. On a ‘bad day’ you can move into YOUR ‘I wants’ too deeply and forget the desires of others. To balance this it’s good to maintain your desires AND also consider the desires of others.

The pink curving line toward the bottom outer edge of your palm tells me you seek out stimulation as an explorer and investigator. Again, boredom will drive you crazy so it’s good that you read and have many new opportunities at high school to satisfy your inquisitiveness. You can also think of this as being a line of curiosity; you like to keep things interesting. Seeking the un-ordinary is ordinary for you.

With the highest ranking fingerprint on your right ring finger, your Life purpose is the Artist – the Woman in the Spotlight being true to her muse. Expressing your SELF is the most important thing you can do – it’s what you came here to do. Your life challenge is to feel accomplished and successful while being true to YOU, standing your ground…. all on the life foundation of Peace and Harmony. I read your ‘challenge’ from your fingerprint patterns on your right Thumb, right middle finger and left ring finger. The arches on your fingerprints resemble mounds of the earth. The earth is secure and provides a solid foundation. You’ll feel best when you feel secure.

As with most things, to know one side you have to know the opposite. When it comes to Peace, a person, like you, will best know Peace by experiencing and moving through sensations of Panic. You may feel panic running through your body at different times under various circumstances. The best thing you can do is to BREATE your way through it and silently remind yourself that you ARE SAFE. You do have nice long vitality/life lines so you are able to ‘ground’ with ease.

Observations: What’s attention-grabbing is the paradoxical combination of the deep desire for peace and harmony along with the need to explore and investigate the unusual. Oddly enough, for this youngster, her tranquility could very well be found in her most stimulating adventures. With a flirtatious flair, she could push the envelope, dance to the edge and sing to the masses with the circ-de-sole, as an example.

See if you have x-ray vision showing in your hands. One or more arcs on the mount under the Index (Jupiter) finger is called the “Rings of Solomon.” The owner of these lines typically has an unerring ability to understand human character and offer profound counsel. S/he can be a teacher who brings deep insight since they are able to see through the façade of things. The more rings the stronger the ability and the need to be a major theme in the life. If the line(s) are straight the owner is more inclined to use reason when ‘seeing’. If the line(s) are curved and arcing on the Jupiter mount the owner will include more emotion in their counsel.

Do you rearrange your emotions for others? Check the Heart Line configuration in your hand. If you have a line forking off the main Heart Line that looks like a waterfall, you may be rearranging your feelings and actions based on your perceptions of others’ needs and feelings. See the example below where the heart line and the fork are shown in purple. This indicates a person may often say “Yes” when they really, really want to say “No”. Hurting feelings is to be avoided at all cost.

Suggestions:

1) Notice the internal emotional rearrangement happening within you

2) Be conscious of YOUR desires and feelings

3) Take your time to silently address another person’s emotional needs without responding right away to his/her words. Give yourself time to ask yourself what you’d like to do (based on #2 above).

4) Give yourself permission to say “Yes” or “No” in self-loving way.

5) Release self-judgment and critism that you should be emotionally connected in any other way than you are.
