Plot: Colossal Complexity

Friday, February 4th, 2011

by Kay Packard

There is a special type of head line that is long, extends straight across the hand and terminates about ½ inch before the edge of the palm. Below, blue ink is used to highlight this head line type. Check your own hands to see if you have one. If you, or someone you know has one, ponder the following.

HAL 9000 Head Line

While no one marker in the hand defines a person, some characteristics can be snared in individual markings.

Richard Unger, Director of the International Institute of Hand Analysis, named this head line after the Super Computer in the science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey filmed in 1968. I remember seeing the movie in the theater, but recently watched it again to refresh the details.

HAL 9000 was born in 1992. HAL was the brain and nervous system of the Pan Am space ship that was on a secret mission traveling from Earth to Jupiter.

HAL was the central processing unit that controlled the food supply, fuel consumption, cryogenic human hibernation quarters, pod flight crafts, communications, oxygen, cooling, and everything for the whole space ship. Its job was to detect any problems and flag the errors/failures and malfunctions and to report accordingly.

HAL was highly intelligent. He was the most reliable computer ever made. He was foolproof and incapable of error. HAL was constantly occupied, fully used. ‘He’ talked, he was curious and engaging. He demonstrated emotions so that the crew could better connect with him (perhaps calculated). He knew birth dates and said “Happy Birthday”. He played chess with astronaut Paul (and beat Paul, of course). He asked to see the drawing of one of the artist pilot’s. He recognized faces, voices, emotions, fears and could read lips.

He said, ”I find things difficult to put out of my mind.”

Hal was all about reliability, analysis, facts, and solutions. On a good day, he put things together in orderly fashion. He was the ultimate synthesizer – fusing and blending all the data input to create the appropriate data output.

In the end, having a bad day, HAL went haywire; he no longer had big enough problems to solve. He over analyzed the little problems. He obsessed on what wasn’t working in his relationships with the crew. He actually plotted for and let a crew member get ‘lost in space’ because he thought there was scheming against him – which they was.

Owners of this long head line can care for and feed their HAL 9000 by engaging in big problems. The more complicated the better. Synthesizing pieces of fabric for an elaborate quilt or reorganizing entire corporations may suit Mr. HAL depending on other features in the hands.

The Super Computer head line has definite mental requirements to employ – large, important projects with massive data arrangement.

How much is enough? Watch your own good day and bad day results and adjust your cerebral control panel accordingly.

And some say, “It’s just a movie.”

Hands Full of Healing

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Might you have Healer markers in your hands?  Let’s find out.

What does the word “healing” mean to you?  The Webster’s dictionary describes healing: ‘to make sound or whole; to restore to health; mend; to patch up; to restore to original purity or integrity’.

Healers facilitate and motivate others to function from a higher level.  We are all healers in our own way at one time or another…and when we choose to be.  Most of us can cite examples where we’ve been stimulated to be and feel better mentally, physically and/or spiritually because of something someone did, said or how they listened.

In the hands are various markers which identify their owners as a “healer”.  Doctors, nurses, veterinarians, chiropractors, psychotherapists, and dentists are mainstream healers.  Examples of alternative healers are massage therapists, Reiki masters, cranial sacral therapists, herbalogists, acupuncturists, ministers and astrologers.  Hairstylists, manicurists, teachers, musicians, photographers, chefs and jewelry makers may also qualify as healers.  However, not all “healers” by profession have healer-markers in their hands.  Likewise, some who have never considered healing as life work may have healer markings in their hands.

Healer markers located on the hands can appear and disappear over time.  Some remain for a lifetime.  Skilled hand analysts can help decipher and explain these markers. When the markers appear, it is an announcement that this individual has ‘signed up’ to connect with others in a deeper and more meaningful way. The indicators in the hands are calling out to the owner of the hands saying “it’s time to see your life-work with a new perspective.”

When a marker is seen in the hands the owner is being summoned to become available to facilitate others toward wholeness and well-being. There are a number of markings that reveal natural healing in the hands.  Below are three examples.

The ‘gifted healer’ marking is one of these indicators.  On one or both hands there may be 5-10 short vertical lines (stripes) etched into the top of the palm just under the pinkie finger.  See Example below. The vertical lines are highlighted in black for location clarity only.

Gifted Healer with Vertical 'Stripes' under the Pinkie Finger

The owner of this gift mark has an extraordinary level of self awareness that others unconsciously (or consciously) recognize.  Others are often drawn to this person for inspirational insights.  People generally feel better after being with the ‘gifted healer’ because, in a sense, they become transformed.  The key for the owner of the stripes is that they need to be using their abilities and talents as a profession, full time, earning income for their gift.  If they don’t they usually suffer from dead end relationships or blocked intimacy in existing relationships.  The skills required are to TRUST the SELF – to respond to their knowingness – or intuition.  This person will be regularly confronted with lessons to learn to trust their own inner guidance system.  Well, truth is, we all need to do that, but the ‘gifted healer’ has ‘signed up’ to offer to catalyze growth or pay the penalty.

Curving Head Line

Another healer marker on the hand is indicated by the head line starting an inch or so below the index finger on the inside of the palm and is drawn downward toward the middle of the palm then curves down to the lower center part of the palm, near the wrist.   See the example to the left with the head line stretching between the arrows.

This type of head line is not to be mistaken for the life line.  The life line is the line closest to the inset of the thumb and wraps around the mount at the base where the thumb plugs into the palm.

The owner of this long and curvy head line can work in the deepest part of their emotions.  He or she is wired to support others who are also moving in and out of the abyss.  Hospice workers utilize this symbol through their service by creatively connecting individuals with emotions related to sadness and loss.  If the owner of this line is unaware of their calling they might find him or herself in and out of depressive states of being without understanding why.  A benefit of sitting with these deep and sometimes disturbing emotions is the acquired ability to compassionately help others who also struggle in this arena.

Whorl

One other type of healer-marker on the hand is having a fingerprint in the shape of a whorl on both pinkies or the left pinkie only.  A whorl print looks like the rings circling the core of a cut down tree.  The skills required here are to communicate openly and completely in relationship.  If in partnership, he or she must communicate fully and appropriately to their partner.  Speaking the truth promotes valuable communication in relationship and thus advances intimacy – characterizing one’s deepest nature.  Intimacy allows and inspires a whole relationship with others and oneself.  One must talk about their feelings and express what does or doesn’t work for them.  This can also be associated with appropriate surrender – not too much, not too little – just right- like Goldilocks.

In all cases, a healer must listen – to his or her inner self and to the other – and then follow their intuitive guidance.  As one learns to communicate with clarity, from their ‘truth’, he or she will find more opportunities for uplifting others.  This will also give the person a more complete and whole feeling ‘within’.   Voila’- the creative space for healing is more expansive AND accessible than before.

Whether you’ve found any of these markers on your hands, or you’re already working as a Healer, any of these skills will contribute to your success:  1) Trust your Self – what you SENSE (see, hear, feel, smell, intuit)   2) Allow your feelings to surface  3)  Communicate your feelings and wants  4)  Embrace all lessons with gratitude.  All associated growth will help others besides yourself.

Remember, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.  It’s not the healer’s job to fix another being.  Healers actually help shift the perspective of an individual when s/he is ready and willing.  Are you ready, willing and open to practice the skills necessary to encourage others to launch into their higher Being?  It could make a difference beyond your wildest dreams.

The Arch – Deciphering Your Own Fingerprints

Monday, September 27th, 2010

by Kay Packard

The arch and the tented arch comprise about 5% of all fingerprint patterns found on the human finger tips and thumbs.  The arch print looks like a mound.  There is no tri-radii, as the whorl has, nor a tent pole like the ‘tented’ arch.  The arch simply looks like a mole hill you might see in the yard.  See the example below.

The Arch Fingerprint

If you’ve been reading this series, you already know that your fingerprints were permanently engraved into your fingers and thumbs in utero 16 weeks after conception. Can you imagine this mark of nature created and then locked in even before the brain was developed?

Look at your own fingerprint patterns and see if you have any arches.  If you see arches, count how many reside on your finger tips. Very few people have arches. Part one and two of this article series identified the whorl and the loop which account for about 95% of the fingerprint patterns.

If you have one arch, out of 10 digits you may be in the school of “Peace”.  If you own two or more arches you are definitely in the school of “Peace” where you are developing your skills to feel safe in your body amidst massive amounts of chaos. To pass Life University, you contracted, from before birth, to visit this crazy planet to learn to experience peace and harmony.  Masters of peace find ways to bring harmony and balance to the world.

If you have two or more arch prints you are developing the skills of alertness, presence, ease and purity.  You’ll increase these profound attributes through repeated struggle, stress, anxiety and feeling behind. There is a method to the madness of the Universe and you are here to feel your body and to teach others to just “Be”.

In my mind, we are not here to be perfect.  We are here to live consciously and fully. On the life path of Peace one is here to enrich life through their deep, deep, deep yearning for peace and calm.  Is one at peace who is buried in projects up to their eye balls?  Possibly.  It’s up to the student to be aware of their level of peace and self-correct as needed.

People in the school of peace make fabulous fire fighters, emergency room tenants, SWAT team members, air traffic controllers in the middle of an earthquake, class-five white water rafter guides, professional motor cycle racers, sky dive teachers and mothers who have children in extraordinary circumstances.  The peaceful fingerprints I have read belong to people in these arenas. Toggling between the Prozac and adrenal addiction is a sure sign of successful trail blazing for Peace.  How could one become peace-FULL without experiencing the extremes?

The arches belong to those honoring the reliable force of nature in every way. In a sense they are taking responsibility for their role in ‘survival’ so that they experience stillness in both their work and play.  They are able to balance work and play and feel secure, stable and safe.

The key to happiness on the life path of Peace is to breathe, get one job done at a time, and experience ‘existence’ as the root of a mighty Valley Oak tree.  While all of us are actually all on the life path of Peace, those with two or more arches have chosen, from before birth, the opportunity to delve more deeply into the lessons on the student path.

Yes, it’s a turbulent sea at Life-U. Large ocean liners are constructed to handle the biggest of storms.  You can too.  Allow yourself to “Be” on the Master Path!

Deciphering Your Own Fingerprints – The Tented Arch
Part 3 of 5
By Kay Packard

The tented arch and the arch comprise about 5% of fingerprint patterns found on the human finger tips and thumbs.  The tented arch has a ‘tent pole’ thrusting up from the mound at the base in the middle of the print.  See the example below.

Tented Arch

Your fingerprints were permanently carved into your fingers and thumbs in utero 16 weeks after conception. Look at your own fingerprint patterns and see if you have any tented arches.  If you see tented arches, count how many reside on your finger tips. Not everyone has tented arches. Part one and two of this article series identified the whorl and the loop which account for about 95% of the fingerprint patterns.  The arch will be discussed in part four of this series.

According to Richard Unger’s LifePrints, if you have one tented arch you may be in the school of “Wisdom”.  If you own two or more tented arches you are definitely in the school of “Wisdom” where you are developing your skills to take risks and fully experience life with joy.  As a Master of Wisdom you are able to quickly discern and initiate appropriate action.

Vernon Mahabal, Director of the Palmistry Institute, declares two or more tented arches dwell on the finger tips of the Enthusiasts.  Enthusiasts are those who tap into their self-initiation skills, stay motivated and inspire others as leaders.

I combine the two descriptions into “The Wise Enthusiast” as one who moves from observation and evaluation to action, follow-through and commitment.  If you have two or more tented arches you are developing the skills of discernment, decision making and the risk of powerful participation in the world.  You’ll learn through being over dogmatic, over analyzing and feeling the need to be absolutely correct before proceeding.

Life experience requires those on the student path of Wisdom to experience the bumps of procrastination, doubt and making excuses along the way.  The student may also swerve between doubt and dogma to get to powerful participation, knowledge and understanding, and then repeat the cycle over and over.  Toggling between uncertainty and ridged beliefs is a pure indicator of successful trail blazing for Wisdom.  How could one become wise without taking action and learning from mistakes?

Acquiring the skills of ‘diving in’, ‘taking the plunge, and ‘just doing it’ puts one on the Master Path of Wisdom.  The sacred work is to bounce through hesitation and vice-grip-beliefs to recalculate the navigation system for Wisdom with Enthusiasm.  The tented arches belong to the courageous Knights, Heroines, Crusaders and Leaders who have suited up in armor and dared to battle.

The key to happiness on the life path of Wisdom with Enthusiasm is to enjoy one’s self during the knowledge gathering and utilization process.  While we’re actually all on the life path of Wisdom, those with two or more tented arches have chosen, from before birth, the opportunity to delve more deeply into the lessons on the student path.

Yes, it’s a bumpy road on the campus of Life. Monster trucks are designed, built and thrash over those gnarly bumps.  You can too.  Just do it and live on the Master Path!

The Whorl – Deciphering Your Own Fingerprints

Deciphering your own fingerprint patterns – the Whorl
Part 2 of 5
by Kay Packard

Whorls comprise about 30-35% of fingerprint patterns found on the human finger tips and thumbs.  The whorl looks like a set of rings seen on a tree stump or the lapping ringlets after dropping a pebble into a body of water.  However, whorl fingerprint pattern must have a core and two tri-radii on the outside lower edges of the circular pattern.

Whorl Fingerprint

Look at your own fingerprint patterns and see if you have any whorls.  If you see whorls, count how many inhabit your finger tips. Not everyone has whorls. There are other fingerprint patterns that I’ll be describing in upcoming newsletters so don’t worry if you don’t have any whorls (or loops as discussed in my last issue).

According to Richard Unger’s LifePrints, if you have three whorls you may be in the school of “Service”.  If you own four whorls you are definitely in the school of “Service” where you are developing your skills to choose to live in a consciousness of service.  As a Master of Service you are consciously aware of your acts of service and not dependent on the outcome.    Vernon Mahabal, Director of the Palmistry Institute, declares these whorls dwell on the finger tips of Teachers.  Teachers are those who tap into the swirling air of knowledge and convey information to those in need.   Clients identify when I combine Unger and Mahabals’ systems and describe that the whorl owner feels compelled to collect and share information for use in self-less service.  The Emergency Medical Technician studies diligently to capture retain and use information real time to preserve and prolong the human heart-beat.

Life experience requires those on the student path of Service to experience sacrifice; feeling resentful, unappreciated and disrespected along the way.  The student may also swing the pendulum in the opposite direction to excessive self-indulgence, tending to her needs and wants – only.  Toggling between sacrifice and self-indulgence is a pure indicator of successful trail blazing for Service.  How else would one learn how to ‘choose’ Service?

Acquiring the skills of saying “yes” and “no” without guilt, in a true state of service puts one on the Master Path.  The sacred work is to bounce through sacrifice and self indulgence when it’s happening and recalculate the navigation system for freedom-in-service.  When the outcome is NOT the primary focus one is in real service.  The simple act of service triggers ultimate delight.

Whorl wearers will also advance by asking for help.  I’ve found this to be most difficult for service-driven-clients because they can ‘do-it-all’.  They have the information and the know-how.  However, those valuable traits can be the primary ingredients for obligation, bitterness and loss-of-self.  What are the benefits in asking, allowing and receiving help?

The key to happiness in service is ‘choice’ and ‘desire’ to help and guide – not control – that garners a long term sense of satisfaction in the process.

As described in Part 1 of 5, if seven loops and (from this issue) three whorls are etched into the finger tips one is on the life path of ‘Loving-Service’.  Consciously servicing from the most authentic self feels really, really good.  Getting to that good-feeling state requires appropriate expression of feelings + selfless service how one darn-well-pleases.

Yes, I know it’s a long and winding road at Life University.  Why not get (or rent) a hot-rod and burn rubber baby!

The Loop – Deciphering Your Own Fingerprints

The Loop
by Kay Packard
Part 1 of 5

Loops blanket more finger tips than any other fingerprint type.  The loop looks like a cowboy lasso.  Loops are governed by the element water.  Water symbolizes the emotional system.  The loop somewhat resembles a wave in the ocean before it breaks.

The Loop Fingerprint

Look at your own fingerprint patterns and see if you have any loops.  If you see loops, count how many occupy your finger tips and thumb.  There are other fingerprint patterns that that I’ll be describing in upcoming newsletters so don’t be alarmed if you don’t have any loops.

According to Richard Unger’s LifePrints system, if you have seven loops you may be on the life path of “Love”.  If you own eight loops you are definitely on the journey of “Love” where you are developing your skills to love and connect with your self and with others at a richly authentic level.  Witnessing and experiencing meaningful and close relationships is a core motivator for you.  As you open yourself up, and allow yourself to be more and more exposed you’ll find yourself advancing on the path of “Love”.  Vulnerability skills are required to accelerate on the expedition of emotional authenticity.

Now showing any level of helplessness can be the scariest thing in the world to you because people might not respond in a pleasant manner, or they might disengage.  Well, if that happens, ask yourself, “Was I being honest and true to my core self?”  “What is the truth about their behavior and detachment?”

Water droplets released on the inside of a garden bucket will flow downward until they join together in a pool.  The natural state of the “Lover” is to join, connect, partner, link, bond and adhere with others.  The key is to keep in check how much time, energy and emotion you’re spending on unhealthy relationships.  Another droplet of water may not be in a place where it cares enough for itself and thus is unable to accept the love you so radiantly display.

Your authentic path is to express your feelings fully and completely at the appropriate moment regardless of the expected response of another.  This isn’t about expressing your opinion or blame.  This is about saying “I feel….”

Your life-tour will flow more gracefully as you learn to appropriately bare your soul, express how you feel, feel your way through the tough stuff, and allow the feelings to be transformed into self respect, love and genuine joy.  Close, deep, meaningful, and sincere relationships will be the result.

Give it a try. With doors wide open enter the Life-Laboratory. Suit up with the designer white coat, Gucci eye wear, flip on the Bunsen burner and engage in the greatest experiment of all – Loving deeply and completely, fully and profoundly.
